The ceramic filter is being developed at Aalto’s Design Factory startup. It’s based on wet clay’s directional freezing, allowing ice crystals to open microscopic channels through the ceramic. The aim of the channels is to be so small that they filter out bacteria and viruses. This makes drinking possible without fear of pathogens.
However, it does not remove toxic substances dissolved in water.
Army conditions can be very harsh in nature and therefore lot of water is needed for drinking. There may not always be enough water in a regular field bottle and only dirty water can be found.
Fits in small spaces
Easy to clean
Cheap to produce
